It is somewhat rare to find representations of people or animals in old Berber rugs woven for personal use. However, figures and livestock do pop up in some rugs and they are always a treat to find: this long vintage rug from central Morocco has camels and male and female figures woven into its bold and lively design, alongside classic lozenge motifs, in pure hand-spun wool throughout. The knotted pile is dense and soft and is in very nice vintage condition, with a couple of original repairs and some areas of colour run. It is likely that this was originally created as a family sleeping rug
