This minimal vintage rug from the central Middle Atlas mountains exhibits all the charming features of a domestic rural rug woven for personal use. The overall ‘abrashed’ colour field shows softly saturated reds along with an area of dashing horizontal lines woven in charcoal. The knotted pile is woven onto a strong cotton base, and there is some subtle pile wear throughout along with gentle marks in the fringes. A flexible and pliant rug, this would have served for both sitting and sleeping
