This original thick old rug has a softly faded patina alongside gentle colour variations from the use of different batches of wool - creating gorgeous variations in shade and tone. The heavy pile is double twisted, testifying to a high-quality rug, and the lovely design story is bordered with a dark edge on two sides. There is some delightful colour run deep in the roots of the knots in the rug and that gives the rug not only hints of past life but also depth and charm: it is clearly vintage and woven for personal use. The tips of the thick knotted pile are sun-faded, and little dashes and dots of burgundy and navy wool appear in a few seemingly random, but certainly intended places. 100% wool, it is in lovely condition with a number of artisanal repairs, large and small, that are visible on the back but that blend into the pile on the face
