A gorgeous bold and authentic vintage rug, dating from about the 1970s to 1980s, created in soft hand-spun dark cream wool and coloured cotton, on a cotton base. It displays all the joy and creativity, yet a determined finesse, of the very best Azilal rugs. The irregular network of lozenge motifs is organic and spirited, enhanced by an additional range of smaller Berber symbols being embedded, seemingly at random, in the diamond motifs. Many of these little motifs are typical ‘male’ symbols, and their insertion into the ‘female’ lozenge-based design gives a unique narrative. There are a few small areas of colour transfer. Woven in 100% pure and soft wool on a cotton base
