Rare Beni Mguild Carpet CA85 sold

985.00

A very old (perhaps 1950s) carpet  woven in the western Atlas mountains, by the Beni Mguild tribe, whose rugs are typified by the use of dark or deep colours, with indigo blue in old pieces made before 1960s, such as this one. The carpet is filled with tiny symmetrically-arranged Berber lozenge motifs, framed by large diamond pattern and delicate edging symbols. This is very fine weaving. The colour has sun faded to the softest ruby red and rich pink. In nice condition with a low pile, and two small areas of restoration

Size : 2.40m by 1.85m

Reference : CA85
